Who was Monique (Marie Andrée Leclerc) from The Serpent in real life?īorn 26 October 1945 and hailing from Quebec, Canada, Leclerc is thought to have met Charles Sobhraj in 1975 during her travels to India, where he played tour guide for her. In episode two of the show (*spoiler alert incoming*), viewers see an imagined and dramatised version of how Leclerc and Sobhraj (who at this point had begun styling himself as Alain Gautier) met and how she's persuaded to go along with his despicable behaviour, whilst adopting a new moniker for herself. Although twelve have been confirmed it's believed there were more deaths in total, somewhere closer to around 30. ![]() Portrayed by Jenna Coleman in the series, the character of Monique (and in actuality) played a pivotal part in scamming and manipulating many of Sobhraj's future murder victims on the Hippie Trail in Southeast Asia during the 70s. ![]()
